Helene Tiedemann was born in the south of Sweden to german/danish-swedish parents but has spent most of her adult life in London. There she studied fashion for several years before getting her degree in Industrial Design Engineering from Central St.Martins.
After graduating she was quickly picked up by leading design and brand companies working on a number of retail- and hotelprojects before deciding to concentrate on her main passion, furniture.
Her first collection was a collection for Libertys, followed by work with the Conran Shop, E&Y in Japan, and then a number of years as an in house designer at Habitat. In order to more fully develop her own style she moved to Stockholm after 15 years in London.
Here she has continued to develop pieces for, amongst others, Asplund, David Design, Iittala, Orrefors Jernverk and Skandiform.
Her style shows a play with, and a knowledge of, the Scandinavian tradition of humancentered functionalism. It is often archetypal and low key with a lot of attention to proportion and detail. In a digital age she is a strong advocate for beauty as a function of its own.
She has continued her studies to cover architecture at the Royal Academy of Arts as well as Behavioural Science, including Creative Psychology.
She runs an office with her husband Matz Borgström in Stockholm, working with almost all aspects of design including interiors, furniture, glass, cramics and other consumer products as well as design strategy.
She is on the Board of the Swedish association of Designers.
