I was born in Istanbul. The daughter of a Turkish-Panamanian couple, I grew up in a multicultural environment.
In 1999 I left my home town to study art in Paris. I obtained my 'diplôme supérieur d'arts appliqués' at the école Duperré in 2006. Azra, my collection of rugs in stamped linoleum is my graduation project which I then developed further for Ligne Roset.
I live and work near Paris.
My approach consists of reinterpreting highly referenced oriental objects such as rugs, mashrabiya and floor cushions, presenting them in materials which signify the domestic sphere to create a tension between the ornamentation and that which carries it. For me as a designer this procedure is a way of expressing the entanglement of different worlds and the cultural melting-pot.
