The inspiration for the shell sprang from a game with a piece of cardboard folded in the shape of a stylised figure. The 'arms' only had to be folded forward to create the initial structure of the armchair. With three simple folds, its two-dimensional surface became a three-dimensional form. The upholstered sections nestle beautifully in the white plastic shell, taking on the slight wedge-shape of the structure. Tapering to the front, they give the chair its light, airy appearance whilst not compromising on comfort. The stitching emphasizes the contours and gives the chair its concise, succinct lines. Torn is like a gentle embrace, supporting areas requiring relaxation, without constriction. Its reduced volumes give it a light appearance - so one can relax in a dainty armchair with matching footstool.'' In order to fully appreciate the depth of comfort on offer, the user should make use of the matching footstool.
